once

while wandering the streets of savannah on a tuesday afternoon, I saw a girl wearing floor-length prom gown the color of apricots, a man scream-singing rock the casbah out the window of a beat-up datsun and a woman in a starched calico bonnet so enormous it completely obscured her face.

  1. Where does your tag "bitter south" come from?

    1. it's inspired by a publication called the bitter southerner (you can read more about who they are here: https://bittersoutherner.com/we-are-bitter)-- so much about the south I love, so much I do not love, so much I hate. and I wasn't born here, did not grow up here but-- I moved here when I was 19, went to college here, got married, had my kids here-- so I've lived here long enough to be considered a southerner, I guess. (even though I resist it sometimes) :) there's such a bittersweetness to the south.

  2. Thank you so much for these daily posts. I love your photos, as well as the pictures your words create in my mind... Especially during this weird and scary time in the world, these posts bring me a little escape. Hope you and yours are all safe (and as sane as possible right now). <3 from New York

    1. thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement-- feels weird not to actually write about here, all that I've been feeling about the current state of things. but feels good to have a practice like this in place, feels like a much needed anchor of sorts. thankful to have it and honored it gives you a bit of an escape. hope you're staying safe + healthy as well! xo
