mental note

I get so much more done when I have my shoes on. I mean, when I'm at home. if I put my shoes on, then I am clearly not fooling around. if I leave my shoes on during the day, I am like a machine. I'm ridiculously efficient. does anyone else find this to be true? anyone?

this is unfortunate since bare feet pretty much rock the casbah.

  1. i've been incredibly inefficient on the homefront of late...maybe i should give this a try ;-)

  2. i seriously thought
    i was the only
    person in the world
    who was odd like that.

    :0)

    but i see
    i am not
    alone.

  3. you are absolutely right. absolutely. my crocs used to fit the bill. but now, they're basically slippers. and slippers aren't the same. you're right.

(too bad we don't wear shoes in our house!)

  4. I don't wear shoes at home. But I would likely get more done if I did.

  5. This is totally true for me. It reminds me of something I read on flylady years ago. If I have my shoes on and my kitchen sink clean -- watch out world!

  6. yeah, but those shoes rock the casbah, too :) - off to put my shoes on so I will clean the kitchen!

  7. So, so true. I was thinking the same thing just the other day. I find when I wear joggers in the house I'm ultra efficient!

  8. Yes. You're not crazy. It definitely works. When the shoes are on, I instantly go into work mode. When they're off, I immediately sit down in front of the TV.
I thought i was the only one. THank you much for reassuring me of my sanity!
    (also, The Clash rocks!)

  9. I LOVE those shoes! They rock! So much better than the plain black w/a little bow ballet flats that I tend to wear around the house. I agree I'm a barefoot or with the shoe thing, though. I've found the same is true of myself.

  10. You are not alone at all! I was literally telling someone this theory today. Supposedly, the harder the shoe is to put on, the more hardworking you'll be. (i.e. laceup steel toe boots vs. slip ons ;)

  11. This is funny! And oddly true.

I don't normally wear shoes in the house, but on Saturday mornings I do because it's cleaning day and I'm running around. Now I wonder....is it the shoes? Or is it that I'm All Business on Saturday mornings and just happen to have shoes on?

Hmmm....I will ponder this for weeks.

  15. speak for yourself! I wouldn't say MY bare feet rock the casbah :P

I think I have a dancer friend who would agree with you. With bare feet she tends to twirl around the house.

Then again, sometimes she twirls around regardless! I love that.

  16. I totally feel you there, I love being bare foot, but I am way more productive when I'm shoe clad.

  17. I had to come back for a sec, I see you are 'totally inspired' by 1000 journals! I was in his very first round of journals 'way back when' and actually had my lame attempts published in his book. Anyway, come visit me at my blog.

howEVer....'socked' feet on wooden floors get you from one side of the house to the other in NO time (and it's loads of fun, to boot!)

  22. you are too funny...oddly enough- i hate NOT having shoes on. crumbs underfoot make me crazy- i'm a slippers kinda gal :}

  24. i love my socks. and i think i'm a sock person because my feet or so big to begin with that shoes make me stumble and topple over things. me a Size 10. the sun is OUT today and its making me sing rock the casbah. he he. xo. i love how much you are loved on your blog, so many comments, O MY! i rented a car, ate out too much this weekend and now we're broke. any great cheap receipe you gots, throw 'em my way. natty

  26. it's possible ... never thought to notice before. but yeah, shoes mean business.

although i'm wearing my garden shoes right now and i'm supposed to be finishing a story for the newspaper, but here i am, on your blog. wrong shoes for the job?

perhaps my mind wants to be outside ...

  27. It's one of the reasons I really dislike my boyfriend's shoes off policy. I adhere to it but really feel like it's hard to motivate when I'm barefoot.

    ReplyDelete
  28. okay, whew. not crazy. thanks for putting my mind at ease, people. and just to clarify, I work best in sneaks. that is, shoes that lace up and are much harder to kick off. too much temptation with clogs or flip flops.

hannah, absolutely. which is why the bottom of my feet are black from june-august. gross, I know.

toni, that's fantastic! yup, 1000 journals. rocks so hard. will come by and visit you!

  29. I do the same thing, only for me it's a ponytail. Man, when that hair goes up - watch out! I'm ready.

  30. My mom always started her house cleaning by lacing up some tennis shoes and I must admit it works to keep me off the couch too. Some days when I have no where to go but lots to do on the computer (usually homework) I get all dressed up, put on a dress and some heels, just so I feel good. Doing homework in sweatpants compared to in a gorgeous outfit definately affects my attitude and usually final product.

  31. Glad I am not the only one!! If I am padding around my house in my barefeet or socks, just forget it. Try again tomorrow. But when I put my shoes on...it's like I am a different person.

  32. i always have shoes on in my home, and i think you just told me why.....

if i don't i'll just curl up with them off the ground and do nothing!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Haha, actually, now that you mention it I do feel quite efficient when I leave my shoes on, especially tennis shoes. I got the kitchen clean and dinner made in record speed the other day, simply by wearing my tennis shoes!

  34. I blogged about this awhile ago,and a friend just sent me your post! I totally agree: http://divyab.livejournal.com/#entry_10799

  35. I agree at home, but at work I tend to be more productive when I'm comfy, which usually means barefoot. I have a habit of walking around the office sans shoes when I get focused, to the point that I've accidentally gone to a meeting or two in my bare feet.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes!! I agree 100% with the relationship between shoes and getting stuff done!! I don't take my shoes off until I am about to go to sleep. I've tried to explain this to my family/friends and they don't get it. Happy to see I'm not alone.

  37. ridiculous true.....but i hadn't noticed until it was pointed out. i adore having my feet contained in a nice pair of flats. must be like "the secret to productivity" that nobody but this small amount of people knows about. lucky us. yay, ^_^
