scenes from the wedding I shot a few weeks ago, from which I think I am still recovering. but I loved it, I did. this much I learned: weddings are to photographers as marathons are to runners. preparation is paramount, pacing is paramount and you really have to push yourself that last half hour. that said, I'd totally do it again. but not before I invest in a pair of miracle shoes.
(special thanks to my very capable assistant/husband,
mister wardomatic-- pictured lower left)
um wow.
ReplyDeletethanks, lady. xoxo
Deletewhat a beautiful bride.
ReplyDeleteshe was luminous. (must share more (real) photos of her soon)...!
DeleteWow! The comment about them being marathons is probably very true. I've shot a couple of engagement and portrait sessions but have been thinking about moving into weddings for a while... this gives me some more information to chew on.
ReplyDelete;)
maybe just shoot one and see what you think? my guess is that you would probably rock a wedding (no doubt, lady) but there's definitely a different rhythm, different challenges that come with it. I figured the only way I'd know (one way or the other) if I wanted to do it (or was any good at it) was to just shoot a few and see. the jury's still out but I'm glad I did. :)
Deletemy husband is a wedding photographer. like, full-time. it's madness.
ReplyDeletehats off to your mister! that is some seriously hard work!
Deletethese are gorgeous!
ReplyDeletedid you shoot any polaroid?
what a great analogy, andrea. they are total marathons.
miracle shoes and a back brace! lol
i dont know how people do it every weekend. it takes a lot out of me.
thanks, amanda! packed a few of my polaroid cameras and packs of film but didn't pick them up once. the day was sort of a blur from beginning to end. there were a few moments where polaroid would've been lovely but the pacing was just too rushed. and man, I am with you-- I do not know how people do ti every weekend. I do not.

lovely shots - you have such a great eye for details!
ReplyDeletethanks so much! xo
DeleteI talked a lovely woman I know who had predominantly shot stuff for print and album covers (remember album covers???) into shooting my wedding back in '96. her boyfriend thought she would never take the gig, but I told her I didn't want 'traditional' photos, and I nagged her.
ReplyDeleteand she agreed to shoot this ONE wedding.
she wore a black velvet tunic and very sensible flat black boots.
she shot a bar mitzvah for a family friend the same day
she is now a wedding photographer, and folks fly her all over the world...

thanks, friend! I will admit to feeling extremely nervous the day before. but I'm glad I did it. and I'll share more soon! xo
DeleteA runner and photographer myself, your parallel couldn't be any more true! I've often mentioned that like runner's high, there's also a photographer's high--that when you're taking photos--there's this high that comes with it that sometimes is so rare & so worthwhile!
ReplyDeletewell, I've only experienced that runner's high once (another story for another time) but the photographers high, yes. a handful of times. so good. SO GOOD.
