about that list

I want to thank you-- for all the kind words, I thank you. truth is, that list came spilling out around four in the morning. effortlessly, as if somewhere inside I'd been waiting patiently for the right time to tell my seventeen year-old self all these things. and I feel a little tender about whole thing but in the best way, the best possible way. if you are at all contemplating putting together a list of things you might say to your seventeen year-old self, do it. even if you scribble it down on a piece of paper only to rip it up and throw it away, do it. chances are, your seventeen year-old self needs to hear it. and your grown-up self needs to say it.

because I think the the power is in the saying.

  1. I loved your list too. I was saying to a friend who wrote a letter to her younger self that when my hubby and I did something similar a few years ago, it made us feel very gentle and sympathetic to our younger selves, or to use your word -- tender.

Such a lovely thing to do.

  2. You are such an inspiration. I have been reading the comments for your last list and how amazing it must feel to inspire so many?! You have already inspired me to write lists all year long, and as much as I love all of your topics I've been searching for topics that would be important to me. But THIS LIST, I think I just might have to myself. I am actually very excited to see what I find from this. Thank you. xo Chelsea

  4. I agree ~ I immediately went and wrote a list of things I would say to my 19-year old self and boy, was it healing. I'm posting it tomorrow (tuesday) at www.alwaystimefortea-brooke.blogspot.com with a link to you.

The whole idea is very thought-provoking and clarifying.

  8. I did love that list to your 17 year old self.
What do we know at 17? I know I was floating on a cloud thinking life was all good, all uphill. I did battle insecurities ~ but age, and experience have taught me so much. I thought your list was honest and beautiful. xo
