I want a birthday party like this! Actually it does remind me of my Rainbow Brite birthday I had when I was younger. It was definetly one of the best birthdays. Great photographs!!!
i ADORE this whole post. it reminds me of Color Me Katie (the blog) and it's also kind of funny because i've been super obsessed with rainbow nails and rainbow jewelry lately. this is wonderful =]
I love it. And since I might not be able to convince one of my boys to have one, I am logging this inspiration for my own b-day. :) You did a great job, Mama.
Oh my gosh, at 24 I'd loooove to have that birthday party, I'd probably add champagne in there somewhere, but seriously, cutest most adorable party idea.
Beautiful photos of what looks to be a wonderful party! Makes me excited for when my girl is that age! The cake is fabulous. I've promised my good friend that I would make this very cake for her this year - so cool to see that yours worked out! Love your blog.
This party is just beautiful and looks like it was so much fun! My oldest granddaughter will be 10 on her next birthday and has never been able to have a party. I'm going to show her this photo spread and see is she likes the idea. Hope y'all don't mind if we borrow it, if she does. ;)
You know, I never would have thought you could out-do yourself, since I was always so jealous and in love with the Japanese birthday party you had for Ava a couple of years ago (which idea I definitely plan to steal at some point) — but I have to say, the Super Epic Rainbow Party is, well... EPIC.
Andrea, I've been reading your blog now for about five years, close to the very beginning, although I've only maybe commented once or twice. I've never met you guys, but I remember so vividly when Ava turned 6, you did a particularly poignant post called "Poor Five" and sometime around there posted a lovely pic of Ava spinning in a field in a little pink outfit. When I went to Flickr and looked at your whole epic party set, I was struck by how all the girls at Ava's party are big girls now, it's in the way they slouch, it's their confident, candid mugging for the camera. I had a moment thinking wow, look at how she's grown up, and that made me think wow, five years of my own life passing so quick. You're simply a brilliant photographer, and seeing the evolution of your art reflected in your photos here these last years has been so lovely. I'm glad you're still blogging!
My 6 year old just had a rainbow party too and we made that epic cake as well! We were going to do the rainbow fingerpainting and twister, but I forgot all about it because I had overplanned it, as usual. I love all the details in yours!
Oooh, I love rainbow birthdays. That was the theme for my daughter's 3rd birthday and she often asks to repeat it again. We did the cake, too. http://pennycarnival.typepad.com/penny_carnival/2008/06/the-end-of-the.html
It's fun to see the ways the theme can work for older girls, too.
i'm pretty sure i've said it before, but i'll say it again.
