I want to share this with you

because it does something to me. because I keep coming back to it, again and again. because do people share poems anymore? because it's important.

a small needful fact

is that eric garner worked
for some time for parks and rec.
horticultural department, which means,
perhaps, that with his very large hands,
perhaps, in all likelihood,
he put gently into the earth
some plants which, most likely,
some of them, in all likelihood,
continue to grow, continue
to do what such plants do, like house
and feed small and necessary creatures,
like being pleasant to touch and smell,
like converting sunlight
into food, like making it easier
for us to breathe.

God bless you, ross gay.

  2. That's a good one.
Have you read The Fire This Time yet? It's edited by Jesmyn Ward, and I recommend it (didn't like the first essay but all the rest were great)
