to go anywhere, everywhere. to quickly pack a bag with what first comes to mind. the essentials: a good book, an excellent pen, three different cameras and a tube of lipstick. to let go of tomorrow and feel the plane scream into take off.
to be in an unknown place, if only for a couple of days. where the food tastes different and the words sound different and people wear bright-colored everything. to throw out the maps, the itineraries, to wander for hours and hours for no other reason than to see. to collect scraps of paper, bits of conversations, to look through the lens again and again. to piece it all together and tell the kind of story that deserves a title.
I have been dreaming of this.
i'll settle with coming to portland again. but i know what you mean lady.

ReplyDeletewell now! that is the spirit! i just wrote a post yesterday on not having travelled enough in my real life. in my imaginary life i have done all sorts of amazing things in magical places. it feels like good karma, finding your post here. the responses i received from my blogging friends was amazing! i was invited to visit 2 castles in Ireland, to go to Paris on a shoestring, take a train to texas, camp out on a futon in Taos, have tea with my pseudo sisters in canada, bring my camera to a grand tea party with a trio of divas in san francisco and more! i don't need an itinerary, only my camera, a tube of lipstick and colorful clothes :) great post!
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling the same way all the time. even if I'm fine where I am, I always wish to be somewhere else. you can not stop curiosity.
ReplyDeleteI woke up today feeling exactly like this. Not unsual since travel to me is religion. However, today I wanted to throw together a suitcase and just run off. I came across your blog via the interview of the luminous Myriam. What a treat.
