how to poetry bomb a thrift store
via booooooom/via my sweet friend amy, who instinctively knew I would fall head over heels in love with agustina woodgate and her brilliant idea to secretly sew poems inside thrift store clothing. there are so many ways to put art and goodness out into the world, so many ways. thank you, amy. I love this. I really really do.

sooooooo amazing! i put little messages/inspirational quotes inside my read library books before i return them. :) i think stuff like this really does make the world a more beautiful place.

ReplyDeleteIf you click the link and scroll down to the yellow shorts you can see that each piece of clothing has a "conversation" label sewn into them, also, each piece has a QR code which leads you to a site about the specific person who constructed the piece.
I don't know if I'd have the guts to go into a store and do this, but you better believe any clothes I donate from now on will have personalized tags inside them from me. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Also, near the end of the video she says something about how the last time she was in the store for 5 minutes, but then I can't make out the rest. Can you understand what she said?

ReplyDeleteAt first I thought this was cute. The young woman is cute and the idea seems cute. But then I started to think that this person really has some cajones to go into SOMEONE ELSE'S STORE and mess with their inventory. Thrift stores exist to make money, not to spread the joys of poetry.
ReplyDeleteWhy stop at thrift stores? Has she done this in JC Penney or Wal-Mart - how about other stores and shops.
There's a kind of artistic arrogance that exists in this woman - as if she has the right to "enlighten" people. Well, true enlightenment happens accidentally and not by sewing Sylvia Plath poetry excerpts in old coats
Why doesn't she just place her little poetry squares in books or LPs?
