self portrait #33

when you are wholly submerged like this, the silence is opulent. your body fights buoyancy and the tiny bubbles quietly suggest you take up full time residency. you think you can stay under forever, you are so weightless and everything (everyone) is quiet. if you are able to open your eyes, the scene plays out like a random dream sequence. limbs seem disconnected from torsos and move through the water in a clumsy, lovely way.

you think you can stay under for hours, for days, months, years. you always think this, but you know that you can't. eventually, you've got to come up for air.

Oh I love this A.
I want to find me some deep clear water right now.

Thanks for all the love lately. You are one of my gems, friend :)

I miss swimming. I used to spend my summer days in the pool- non- stop.
diving, handstanding, summersaulting, searching for the penny. I love the way I feel after a day of swimming, excellent and tired

funny, we are made up of water, yet it is so foreign to us when we are submerged in it...

this is definitely one of this weeks best. I love pools and I love to see how long I can actually stay under before having to come up for air.

I love, love, love this. I love how you capture the quality of being under the water and how everything stands still. It's the perfect end of summer SPC.

There is something magical about being underwater...I did something this summer that I hadn't done since I was a child. Went to the deep end, all the way to the bottom, then let myself slowly float to the surface...I imagine this is what an astronaut would feel like floating through space...great picture!

Every time I am in the water -- a pool, a lake, the ocean, I feel so alive and whole I think "I've got to do this as often as possible." ... and then months pass. This brought me right back to that feeling. Beautiful.
